Christian New Creation (CNC) will greatly miss the involvement of Capt. Robert Naughton, USN (Ret.), who passed away on February 7, 2021. Mr. Naughton was a dedicated board member and supporter of CNC. He and his wife Peggy had been involved with prison ministry activities since retiring from NASA in 2004.

Before retiring from the Navy, Robert J. Naughton spent 26 years of active duty flying tactical carrier-based aircraft. His three Commanding Officer tours included a carrier-based squadron, the Navy’s biggest aviation squadron, and a Naval Air Station. He flew 6400 flight hours with over 600 carrier landings. On his 195th combat mission during the Vietnam War then Lt. Naughton was shot down and spent nearly 6 years as a POW in Vietnam. His education credentials included a BA in mathematics, a MBA in finance, and a Distinguished Graduate of the Naval War College, along with several published articles. His military decorations included a Silver Star, two Legions of Merit, two Distinguish Flying Crosses, a Bronze Star, two Purple Hearts, multiple air medals, and multiple commendation medals.
After Mr. Naughton retired from the Navy, he joined NASA as Chief of the Johnson Space Center Aircraft Operations division. For the next 15 years, he managed 400 employees, a $60 million budget, and operations of 45 aircraft. The mission was to train astronauts and support the Space Shuttle and Space station programs, as well as scientific aviation activities. Mr. Naughton served 7 years as the Chairman of the NASA wide aviation panel. His NASA awards include The NASA Leadership Medal, The Nasa Distinguished Service Medal, and The GSA Federal Aviation Manager of the year award.
